    I’m At DotMoms Today

    July 23, 2006

“I’m on the fringe when it comes to knowing the details of what Linda Hirshman has written and is saying about stay at home moms. For that reason alone, I’m probably the kind of woman that she finds contemptible.”

Can you stand another take on the Linda Hirshman crud? If so, I have a post up at DotMoms today.

Excellent post! I’m always shocked to realize how mainstream Linda Hirschman’s views actually are - when I first had my daughter, my mother-in-law told me that it was “okay” because I hadn’t finished my degree, but that well-educated women shouldn’t be home with their kids. What?

My philosophy is that education is not just the path to employment but to enlightenment. Enlightenment is a good thing to posess when one spends her day trying to shape little cavemen into civilized human beings.

I value education as one of the most important things in life, however some of the wisest people I know never once stepped foot on a university campus.

Beautiful post! Thank you for your insights into what’s really important. Wish more people felt that way. Now, can you help with two of my other favorite soapboxes please: the salaries for nurse, teachers and cops, and the serious need for a sense of personal responsibility throughout the US? (I would say “ha ha” but that’s actually a pretty serious subject, so I refrain!)

And for what it’s worth, whether I ever go back to the corporate world or not, I’m never wearing pantyhose for anyone, ever again!

Exactly. That is just what my friends and I have been saying and discussing. I’ll have to send them over there to read!
