    Thai Children

    August 7, 2006

    100_5500b_1

I promised awhile back that I would post a picture of one of my paintings.

A dear friend of ours, lived and worked in Thailand for many years. Whenever he was in the States for a visit, he came to our house for dinner and told us fascinating stories about his life among these warm and wonderful people. In a stack of photos that he brought with him one time there was one of these four captivating little Thai girls. Something about the group of them captured my heart and it was the inspiration for this “not quite done yet” painting.

That is beautiful, I too am an artist but I hoard them when people tell me to share share share. Beautiful. Our youth go to Thialand every year, they are awed by the people. Your friend is right.

I read you bio, and you are really blessed! My sister went through the a lot of the same things you did. She never had any children, though. My mom had me when she was 41. She says I kept her young!

How incredibly lovely! I am a creative person but I am certainly not an artist. I am always so envious of and awed by those who can create beautiful art. I think that portraits are especially difficult because of that inner light that is so elusive. You’ve captured that light. Bravo.

P.S. Is that comment spam? I’ve never seen it before and was taken aback by it. How rude.

Thank you all for your kind words. The only problem is if I believe you then I have to believe the person who took time out to email me to say “You suck!” One of the hardest things about putting your work out for review.

Everyone’s a critic. Why would anyone do that? If you don’t like something move along. OK I have to start counting to ten and take deep breaths.

I think the girls are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your incredible gift.

    18. Perri says:

Obviously the “you suck” comment came from someone jealous of your obvious talent. It’s beautiful.

I’m a firm believer that to be a critic you have to post your own artwork for US all to look at. I would invite your sole critic to feel free to post some of thier own work, though I doubt that would happen.

I think your work is wonderful, and being an art major (though not fine arts, which is certainly what you qualify as) I get to say that with some degree of credibility. You have a wonderful gift and a good eye for detail.

I look forward to seeing more of your work. It seems you are just endowed with all sorts of talent, as you write well enough to make me laugh out loud or cry in an instant (I thought your post on the last weekend in july would break my heart). God has truly blessed you!

Absolutely beautiful! I can’t imagine having that kind of talent in addition to your writing talent! You’re amazing.

AM, yet another reason for you and my Mr. Right to talk art. You seem to have the same style and medium in mind.

And I agree with the others… you are one multi-talented lady. It’s lovely!

Edward Weston, famous photographer, said that all criticism is only opinion.

I liked your painting. I like the grouping, and the way the shortest one is shyly peering out at us from the frame, her face half-hidden. I like the way the tallest leans back, already getting a womanly expression on her face. It’s a fun, warm picture.
