Whut The Heck Izit Photo Contest

February 23, 2008 | Photo Essays

Sean likes to take pictures with my camera and sometimes he comes back with some pretty interesting stuff. And sometimes I have no idea what he has photographed. So I’m hosting my first ever “Whut The Heck Izit” photo contest.

I have never given away anything on my blog before, but I had dinner with Chilihead Friday night and after a Sangria Swirl, she made it sound like fun. But then everything sounds like a lot more fun after a Sangria Swirl.

So then, Sean will randomly select a name from the list of guessers and will personally send the winner a fabulous prize.  No not really. It won’t be fabulous. It won’t be a $500 gift card to Lowes or a Wi-fi (whatever that is) but it will be a prize-ish prize-like sort of prize.  I have no idea when the “contest” is over because I don’t really like rules.

With no further ado, Whut The Heck Izit??

  1. Pat says:

A child in a yellow rainsuit with red rainboots, playing in the rain!

  2. Lisa in California says:

It a picture of the rain on the ground reflecting the colors above it.

  3. jen elslager says:

And sometimes I have no idea what he has photographed.

So… do you know what this is? ;)

  4. Susan J. says:

What concerns me are what appear to be bare legs floating by.

  5. Jen says:

I would say… something reflected in stainless steel… or the TV on a fuzzy channel. :)

  6. Mary Beth says:

It is different colors of paint on the asphalt after some icy winter weather. The brightly colored painting was run over by a bike or a car with muddy wheels!

  7. Honor says:

Hi, new reader here. I found your blog by clicking through a gazillion different links, so no real way to tellyou how I got here. Anyway, I’ve been lurking off and on, and thought I should say hello.

My boys often take photos with my camera, too. As a matter of fact, during my brother-in-law’s wedding, I handed my camera over to my 9-year old. Since he had no real concept of staying out of anyone’s way, or waiting until people were “ready” for the photo, I have a bunch of fabulous, unstaged photos that make for wonderful memories. And he got right up in the front row while they cut the cake! ;-) People seem to be less threated by a kid with a camera than an adult who fancies herself a wannabe photographer.

Anyway, I’m guessing the mystery photo is of chocolate cake with lots of colored frosting or sprinkles. Though I’m not sure what caused the blurriness - it looks like maybe it was taken through patterned glass. Interesting shot!

    Have a fabulous weekend!

  8. mama speak says:

I’m w/the yellow rain jacket & red boots; maybe a multi-colored umbrella too?

  9. Wander says:

A picture of the backyard taken through vertical blinds while it’s raining outside?

  10. kittyhox says:

Some kind of elaborate boy-toy (race track or something), out in the backyard? Photo taken on it’s side through a very strange sort of window?
    What is it?
    Inquiring minds want to know!

  11. tracey says:

It’s a picture of a tv show, right?

  12. ColleenM says:

Alright, I am craving chocolate, so to me it looks like a piece of chocolate cake decorated with frosting and sprinkles.

  13. Sarah Kate in WA state says:

My guess is that it’s a close up, sideways view of a piece of chocolate cake w/ sprinkles and colored writing/icing.

  14. Heidi says:

A toy (Lego Bionicle, maybe?) reflected on a tin can.

  15. Brigitte says:

I fear it may be one of the Doodlebops on the TV!

  16. alex says:

distorted reflection of elmo? or sesame street character?

  17. Becky says:

Do you have a vase or a decorative window of rippled glass? I see wavy glass that is distorting whatever is on the other side.

  18. Kacey says:

Anyone can see that it is the inside of your oven! How long has it been since you cleaned it?

  19. Jenny says:

reflection on a rainy street? it’s abstract art!

  20. chickadee says:

    you dancing?

  21. A&EMom says:

It seriously looks like your camera is broken, and there was likely water involved.

  22. A&EMom says:

Okay, I turned upside down and asked my 4 year old… tub toys through the shower curtain!

  23. Beth says:

I think it looks like cupcakes or a cake through some type of glass.

  24. Angie says:

It definitely looks like a quadruple decker hamburger with mustard, ketchup and M&Ms. Either that, or I am really in the mood for junk food! :)

  25. Carrie @ Three-Girl Circus says:

Hmmmmm, a reflection of some sort….maybe it’s sideways and those are trees and grass and well, I don’t have a clue really. Very interesting. People pay good money for art like this!

  26. Lisa W. says:

To me, it looks like a pic of toys takem through a pane of rippled glass. :)

  27. Geri says:

    ummmm it’s the tv rolling?

  28. Yvonne says:

Looks like chocolate layer cake with sprinkles….or maybe I’m just craving that right now…..

  29. Jeana says:

I’m seeing a Ninja Turtle, two Rescue Heroes (one the astronaut monkey, the other maybe Billy Blazes?) a Tonka Truck, a couch and the back door in the back ground. I’m guessing he moved the camera while he was snapping the photo.

And sure, go on and rub it in that you had dinner with Chilihead.

  30. Krista says:

I’m seeing through either wavy glass or a shower curtain only it looks like a couch with toys on it. (turned sideways) and those look like windows on the right side/top.

  31. Sharon M. says:

It looks like Sean took a picture of the toys in his toybox( the one that he was sitting in in the last post) through the not so seethrough wall of the toybox.

  32. Photochick (Amanda) says:

OK! After MUCH contemplation… To me it looks like the upside-down reflection of a yard gnome on a rainy surface (sidewalk, driveway, patio?) I also think it looks like the gnome’s in front of a door on the right side, and a bush on the left.
Dead wrong? Probably! But at least it’s detailed! HaHa!
    :o)

  33. a Tonggu Momma says:

I’m with A&E Mom … tub toys through the shower curtain, with the photo taken vertically, even though the shot itself is horizontal.

  34. Laura says:

My guess is it’s a crazy clown getting out of his or her car in a parking lot in the rain. I think that would be interesting enough for a kid to want to take a picture ;o)

  35. Jean says:

I think it’s a reflection of Sean taking a picture of himself through the sliding glass door and he’s got his rain boots on. Of course it’s raining outside and he’s got the camera sideways.

  36. Natalie in TX says:

I have no idea on the picture but the sangria swirl sounds great! I just recently started drinking those again this last month after not drinking them for too many years. Please forgive me Frozen Margarita Machine!

  37. Jennifer says:

I see a gumball machine…and some blinds in the background.

  38. Daren says:

I’m going with the shower curtain.

  39. danana-banana says:

One of his sand toys out on the patio - picture taken through a window or glass door.

  40. Kim says:

Peeking through the mini-blinds on an overcast, rainy day, we are seeing a Hot Tamale crossing the street while wearing a coat of many colors and a yellow hard-hat. He is totally oblivious that we’re observing him.

  41. Karen @ Simply A Musing Blog says:

Okay…Here’s my edumacated guess, sans sangria:

It’s a self-portrait of a certain little boy wearing red sweats and a yellow shirt/jacket while standing outside your back (?) door in front of the bushes with his bike. It is raining and the rain has puddled up around the dirt piles on top of the asphalt.

    How’d I do?

  42. Edi says:

    crayons

  43. Sara says:

Another vote for chocoate cake with some kind of sprinkles or mini M&Ms on it taken sideways with a wavy glass cake keeper lid. Or a tank with dirt and colored rocks for some kind of reptile?

  44. Diane J. says:

This is a piece of brightly decorated chocolate cake, probably birthday cake, in a corrugated clear plastic deli container. Rotate the picture a quarter turn counter clockwise and it’s easier to make out.

  45. Doris says:

oil spills on a rainy road

  46. Kristin Evans says:

I think it’s sideways - It’s colorful toys sitting on a window ledge on a rainy day. The brown is the floor or maybe a desk?

  47. Kara says:

Hm, a playground through a rain-streaked window? (sideways) My boys love taking pics with my camera too and they normally get their feet and the TV lol.

  48. Natalie says:

Hmmm…methinks it is chocolate cake, in a plastic container (as someone already mentioned) or through a glass - a drinking glass, perhaps.

Or maybe the camera has sangria-goggles? ;)

  49. Starbuck says:

I think it Sean’s hotel boat. Or maybe Big Bird playing jump rope with Elmo.

  50. diXymiss says:

I think it’s a piece of frosted, colorfully decorated, chocolate cake as viewed through an empty glass of milk. ThanX for triggering a craving…

  51. Paulette says:

How fuuun…. is it Seans lego boat on wheels house we saw on that precious video? Greta job Sean what a fun game!

  52. Jim says:

I think it is a “melted/ing” chocolate Easter rabbit, that waited to long in one place for that helium balloon to come crashing down in the House of Antique, which was left over from the Birthday Party last Fall.
Actually the picture was perfect that Sean took, but when AM went to download, she was under the influence of Sangria Swirl and accidentally done a double exposure, thus creating a flawed picture.

  53. TransitionGirl says:

Looks to me like a burger with many many layers, stuffed with M & Ms.

  54. Sharon says:

I’m guessing it is the television. My seven year old is forever taking pictures of her programs and they often look ’smeary’ like that!!

  55. Cindy says:

Yup, I’m going for the chocolate cake with chocolate icing smears on the plastic lid if it is store-bought; glass cake cover if it is homemade. Now I’m hungry.

  56. fern says:

Looks to me like crayons left out in th sun too long!

  57. Julie says:

My guess? A toy resting on a towel on the edge of the bathtub, inside the shower curtain.

  58. Lexi says:

    Toys, through a glass….?

  59. CircusKelli says:

The reflection of a piece of chocolate cake with red frosting and M&M’s on top of it sitting in a puddle.

  60. Stephanie says:

AN ALIEN SPACE CRAFT FILLED WITH FROOT LOOPS POURING ITS LOAD ON THE BEACH :)

  61. jayedee says:

sean holding a lego creation of his

  62. Scott says:

I think it looks like a close-up of a drawing Sean made of his mommy. Looks just like one that my daughter made of me. Perhaps we are long-lost wins? Sure do miss you, sis.

  63. sophia1212 says:

Sushi of banana and red bellpeppers.

    Sushi of colorful M&M’s.

    Sushi of Lego.

    Afterall, Sean IS creative…!!

  64. Lori says:

i’m guessing it’s a picture of slice of chocolate birthday cake, with chocolate frosting and some writing in different colored icing. it may or may not have sprinkles. i’m guessing this after turning my laptop all around at all different angles….now i’m dizzy so i hope i’m right!

  65. Cheryl says:

I think it’s a slice of three layer chocolate cake with chocolate icing. The colors are from the writing on the top of the cake.

  66. Lillian says:

Do you have one of those plastic “build your own trumpets” or build a marble-run thing - definately looks like one of those - I’m going with the “as seen through glass” suggestion.

  67. Kai says:

Looking out a window at a car parked in the driveway with its tail lights on and a rocking horse behind it

I actually love this photo…it’s very abstract (obviously) and a great use of color. I hope to see it in the Art Gallery of Sean someday!

  68. Julie says:

My guess is that it is chocolate cake with chocolate icing and colored sprinkles. Maybe the cake is on a cake stand that has a wavy glass cover on it? The picture was taken sideways.

  69. happy Mommy says:

I think this picture was taken through glass, it looks like M&M’s and melted chocolate. I think I am hungry.

  70. ChristyCate says:

Ok… I see AM’s fingers (maybe they’re AD’s) and a toy (is it Handy Manny, a toy soldier, or perhaps an Indian with tomahawk and bow and arrow included)Oh, and your window… Were you holding a coffee mug?

  71. Snapshot says:

A reflection in the water left on the street after a rainstorm.

  72. Andrea says:

Is your shower curtain clear? This looks like toys seen through a shower curtain. Or maybe standing in the tub and looking out.

  73. Praise and Coffee says:

    The Great Wall of China?

No, really…is it the lego chateau he made on the video?
    Sue

  74. Jan says:

HA! I know what it is!! It is a sideways photo of chocolate birthday cake with sprinkles. The cake is in one of those plastic round box things like you might get if you get the cake at WalMart.

    Yay!! I win!!!!

Either that, or it is MacArthur Park.

  75. Cathy says:

I enlarged so as to see it better. That is a Big Mac with mustard and ketchup instead of special sauce!

  76. Kim says:

I think it is plastic action figures through a plastic shower curtain liner.

  77. amanda says:

He has taken an artful shot of himself, thighs-down, apres bath, into the bath tub or shower stall, whose doors are still wet. Beyond the doors are all of his colorful toys!
If it’s not that, it was raining outside and he took this through the sliding glass doors, and it’s a deflated bouncy-jumpy thing outside.

LOve the picture and your idea!

  78. edj says:

reflection…of part of a wall and a couch with some sort of toy/blanket or something on it…

  79. Gretchen says:

Is it the TV going bonkers/flipping between channels?

    Great fun.

  80. Kara Messner says:

I believe I see a gum ball machine in there lots of gumballs (and also a mysterious arm in the background). Would LOVE to know what it really is. Do you know?

  81. mrsNehemiah says:

a hand holding a pinwheel taken through a glass of water.

    Mrs N

  82. Paulette says:

yep I came back to check it out def a piece of chocolate cake with bright icing.

  83. Debbie says:

    Reflections in a puddle.

  84. Pam says:

I’m going to guess a hand holding and dropping M&M’s - lots of M&Ms. And maybe some more chocolate. And are those colored candies…

  85. Nicki says:

I have no idea what that thing is. Ditto to all the good answers.

  86. Happy Geek says:

I’ not exactly sure, but there was something awfully similiar in my fridge last week. I just threw it out.

  87. Tom says:

It’s one or two of his fingers, on the other side of a jar or vase made from some kind of linearly-banded glass. And something along the lines of a brightly colored monkey in the background.

Or it could be something else entirely.

  88. SG says:

Sorry but I didn’t read all the other guesses. I am guessing that is the reflection of a tail light of a black car in a puddle and there is something else, maybe a bumpter sticker reflecting more colors?

  89. Betty G. says:

Sean, I think this is a colorful plastic toy in a rainy reflection. Am I right? (I have some grandsons in Memphis who would LOVE to play with you sometime.)

    Betty in Oklahoma
    aka Grandma of 12

  90. Smockity Frocks says:

Someone already said this, but I think it’s a reflection of someone in a rain slicker on a rainy driveway.

  91. Elaine says:

Something with Playdoh? I have no idea really…

  92. purebillow says:

The view from Sean’s Hotel Boat!

  93. mama speak says:

Wait, upon further reflection (and reading more answers) I think it’s Sean’s Hotel Boat or a bunch of legos behind a wet shower curtain. Maybe a a Southwestern theme shower curtain?

  94. Carola says:

No idea…really, I pass…good for you because had I guessed correctly you would have had to send me the present overseas! :)

  95. Miss Sniz says:

I’m sure it’s too late, but I want to make a guess! I didn’t read any of your insanely numerous comments, but my guess would be a photo of brownies or chocolate cake with sprinkles seen through a watery, rainy piece of glass, then the whole picture put on it’s side!

  96. Mary Ann says:

Towels and moisture seen through a shower door?

  97. Starnes Friend says:

It has to be: Santa Claus! Have YOU ever seen a picture of him??? I didn’t think so.

  98. Lori says:

    It’s an original JackSean Pollock!

  99. zoom says:

    Great play on words Lori.

    Hmm.

Reflection of legos in a puddle of water…

  100. Aunt Murry says:

It’s a puddle reflecting the front bumper of a bus with the crossing guard next too it.

  101. Aunt Murry says:

Or maybe Elmo in the abstract.

  102. Marianne says:

I think it is bags of candy through a rain-streaked display window…except the pictures been rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Or he rotated the camera a funny way. After all, if I was his age, I would take pictures of bags of candy!! And they were probably at his height, too. :)

    Pick me!!

  103. Elizabeth says:

It’s a shot taken through a lego sculture while the cameraman was moving a bit too fast.

  104. Elizabeth says:

    Make that “sculpture” LOL

  105. shayne says:

I think I should get the prize-ish-sort-of-maybe-kinda-prize-thingy, for personal injury. I nearly rubbed all the skin off of the pad of my forefinger from scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the comments so I could put my 2 cents in.

Now it hurts to type and I HAFTA type. It’s sorta in my job description. (stupid job) heh heh…just kidding Lord…I LUV my job. Yep. Love it, love it, love it. Which is why I spend so much time on this site trying to figure out what the heck Sean took a picture of. Which I think is a piece of chocolate cake
on it’s side, taken from underneath the plate which is glass. I think.

    O.k….will begging work??? PUH-LEEEZE????

  106. Shalee says:

That, my friend, is a very unique view of a piece of chocolate with chocolate icing (with sprinkles!) birthday cake.

How about the prize be that you come up and have dinner with me? Because when I read the bit where Chili and you went out, that little green monster made me really want to be there too! I will not be jealous, I will not be jealous. I will not… Okay, I will, but I’ll do it with a heart that says I’m really glad that you and she had a fabulous time!

  107. Katina says:

Could it be a handful or armful of toys underneath a glass top table.

  108. Elaine says:

At first I was convinced it was a puddle, but now I can see it as nothing other than chocolate cake.

  109. LeeAnn says:

I started with thinking it was the rear tailights of a vehicle (sedan?) reflected in a rainy driveway, but now I’m going with the turn-the-image-sideways gang and thinking it’s chocolate cake. Or maybe an ant farm?

  110. Sharon says:

It is a triple big mac (burnt) dripping with ketchup, mustard and an unidentified blue condiment

  111. Sarah S. says:

I haven’t read through all of the comments, but reading through some of them helped me get it. I was CONVINCED it was a rainy day pic of a reflection, and the chocolate cake guesses were just ridiculous to me, but when I turned my head sideways — there WAS the chocolate cake, with some brightly colored icing. It appears to be smooshed up against its container/ plastic cake carrier thing (’cause I’m guessin’ the cake came from a Tom Thumb-type place) and some of the icing is in the grooves (which is what someone said appeared to be bare legs floating by).

  112. Renna says:

The view through a window (from outside) which is iced over, with icycles hanging down, taken with the camera held sideways?

That Sean, whatever it is, he seems to be quite the little abstract artist! ;-)

  113. Joan Crowson says:

A picture of his “moving lego hotel” while Sean is moving with it and the camera - quickly!

  114. Cyndi says:

Yeah, I’m with the chocolate cake people. Looks like the top of the container got smushed against the side of the cake and transferred frosting. Nice perspective!

  115. Michele Idaho says:

I think it just might be a fork squishing through some chocolate cake.(Has there been a recent birthday?)

  116. shayne says:

Shayne is now lusting for chocolate cake. She is becoming one of the Chocolate Cake People, as referenced by Cyndi.

    Must…go back…to…work…

  117. Annie says:

Husband says hamburger and I say “What the heck is it?”

  118. Liz G. says:

A Wendy’s Triple Cheeseburger with Ketchup, Mustard and M&M’s as seen through the drive thru window during a rainstorm.

  119. MAXSNANNIE says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog, I love to laugh and your site definitely does that for me!!!! I don’t have a clue what the picture is but I love anything Sean draws, says or builds because he reminds me so much of my precious grandson Max so whatever it is….it’s great!!!

  120. Tina says:

That is some tasty looking chocolate cake under glass with a thick layer of chocolate frosting and colorful sprinkles.
    Beautiful modern art Sean!

  121. Rachel says:

i agree! - chocolate cake and sprinkles and colorful icing and we’re looking at it through glass - maybe a glass cake holder thing?

  122. Sarah says:

Maybe the chocolate cake with sprinkles is in a glass bowl? A close up? He’s got a good eye. I’m going to comb the cupboards for some chocolate now.
