Product Review - Lands’ End Swimming Suit

April 17, 2008 | Uncategorized

I got my Lands End swimming suit in the mail today and I love it with all my heart. And I’ll tell you why: It fits and it is comfortable and it stays put. Although it doesn’t tell me I’m funny.

I bought a couple of inexpensive swimming suits last year and spent all summer, tugging and adjusting and they just never fit and it was aggravating.  In addition to all that good stuff, this suit is really really cute –definitely not a matronly grandma suit, yet appropriate for someone my age.

I found that the suit is true to size based on the measuring guidelines that Lands End provides. I did however go up one size in the bottoms and am glad I did.  I ordered a second suit today and decided to go up one size on the top also just because I like more room since I have to pull it over my head.  I wish they would make a suit with a front zipper just because I always seem to get the top stuck under my underarms when I’m pulling it on and I can’t pull it down and it gets stuck and then I cry until someone comes to help me.  Of course I’m the same gal who crawled under her car to retrieve her gas cap instead of just pulling forward, so it could just be me.

Someone commented that she had always wanted a Lands End suit but could never justify spending that much money on herself and I really resonated to that point. I felt exactly the same way, because let’s face it, they are not cheap. But now that I have one? I wish I’d never spent a dime on any other suit and just gotten one good Lands End suit. My friend Gigi told me two years to get a Lands End suit and did I listen? No.  (Gigi! You were right!)

So then, the super lucky winner of the Lands End swimming suit of her choice is diXymiss who takes cools pictures and writes ineXplica, even though she disparaged my Betty Boop figure in comments.  I’m pretty much over it. Oh I kid. I went to high school with mean girls, I’m used to being disparaged.

Congratulations diXymiss!   I wish you many sunny summer days at the pool.

Oh my goodness, don’t wish for a suit with a zipper down the front. Do you know how much kids love to yank on a zipper. Actually your is probably old enough to resist the urge, but if you accidentally got ahold of a toddler…hello dollies!!

  2. Cindy-Still His Girl says:

The UPS man brought me my Land’s End suit today. (actually he brought me three, but I can only keep one.) It is similar to yours (only I NEED padding for my girls). I went with the damask floral in black. Thanks for the encouragement that it will be worth the $$!

  3. Michelle says:

I bought a land’s end suit 4 years ago and the bottom is just starting to show wear.

Which couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the fact that I have put on a few or more pounds since I bought it.

    Definitely worth the money!

  4. MarathonMom says:

Glad you like your suit! They do have some cute ones! Happy Swimming!

  5. AB says:

Not getting a suit yet. Just. Can’t. Do. It. Where have you been lately? You never write…you never call.

  6. Nicki says:

Well, I’m going to go look at their suits. I have to go to Mexico this summer and the only thing worse than going in a bathing suit is going in my b-day suit. Thanks for the tip.

  7. diXymiss says:

I went to school with mean girls too ~ only they tormented me for the eXact opposite reason! ThanX for being so gracious about my fauX pas (silly teasing), AM. I grovel at your tiny feet. Perhaps you need that voluptuous bustline to make room for your great big HEART?! ;-)

ThanX for blessing me with this generous prize. I am sooooo eXcited!

    Hugs,
    diXymiss (humbly grateful)

  8. Photochick (Amanda) says:

Think they’d offer me a super special deal if I promised to model one of their suits? Then again, they may end up charging me even more - I’m sure they like to have medels who encourage (not discourage!) others to buy!

Kidding kidding! Actually, I’m thinking that you’ve found my hubby an EXCELLENT idea for Mother’s Day! Much love to you & yours, take care and God Bless!

I have to confess, I bought a LE swimsuit the day before you posted this giveaway. And then I thought–wouldn’t that be fun if I could return it and buy it back with the gift card. Ha!

Same as you, I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money. But the suits I’ve gotten elsewhere stretch out, don’t fit right when wet, wear out in inconvenient places, etc., etc.

So I splurged. Husband was with me when I was trying them on (I smuggled him into a ladies’ changing room with me so I wouldn’t have to come out), and he said it was worth it just to see me actually feel good in a swimsuit. So yay! Yay for Lands End and their ability to make otherwise self-conscious mommies feel good about their bodies. Or at least tolerate them. :)

  10. Jeana says:

In the long run, it’s a cost savings because the LE suits don’t fall apart as soon.

  11. mamaspeak says:

I love my LE suit. Been waiting on ordering another, JIC I won here. ;-) I wear mine when I’m w/the girls in the pool so I don’t have to worry about covering anything; when I just w/Daddy (like the vaca last month) then I wear my bikini (don’t get all excited it’s surf shorts to cover the fat,) cause tan fat is still better then white fat. Every. Single. Time.

  12. Fraulein says:

Seriously — you could easily buy a $30 or $40 suit every year because the cheaper ones can fall apart after a single summer’s wear! You are definitely better off splurging on the Lands End one and keeping it for a while. Living in New England I don’t get to the beach a heck of a lot, so I was able to keep my last two Lands End suits for about 10 years before they fell apart! Another thing to watch is the Lands End “overstocks” sales. You can get some great deals with those!

  13. Shalee says:

    Congrats to that lucky girl!

  14. WrapAroundSam says:

    Seriously now, where’s the picture of you in the swim suit? The iris is lovely….(c;}

  15. Sue Cramer says:

I have literally worked myself into a sweat trying to get the top of my tankini off. I’m nervous just thinking about it.
    A zipper would be nice.

    Congrats to the winner!

  16. Suzio says:

Your glowing recommendation of the Land’s End swim suit makes me want to run right out and buy one. The onset of swim suit season always makes me groan with dread. I hate to shop for swim suits.

  17. Pam says:

I can’t believe I’m actually thinking about buying a new swimsuit, thanks to you! I haven’t put one on in YEARS (Think: thunder-thighs, LOL).

Love your blog! I’m an antique, and a mommy, although not an antique mommy. I’ve added you to my “list” so that I can keep up with you. Thanks for the laughs!
